Brading

Our first goal is to head for St Helens, noteably its ruined church tower.  Nelson boarded his ship The Victory just off shore at this point to join the fleet at the battle of Traffalga. Following the coastal footpath we cross the tidal causeway, just as the tide is racing in. Some road walking later we are crossing the marsh on the old railway track bed to Brading. Our lunch is on a bench looking over to Bembridge windmill in one direction and the down in the other. The weather has turned colder as the sea mist blows in . We follow the remainder of the old railway track to reach Brading. An old Town which has seen much busier days especially when the sea washed up to the church of St Mary the Virgin.

Our attention now focuses on The Roman Villa,  1.5 miles away towards Sandown. We enjoy a cup of tea   and a large portion of walnut cake. After the tour of the site        ( which in my opinion is like a Time Team project ), we head of back 2.5 miles to the site. After dinner we settle down for 20 mins of watching the red squirrels scamper about whilst the parents feed.
