isle of wight

I guess we owe a big thankyou for this adventure to Red Funnel Ferries.
http://www.redfunnel.co.uk/ They have a special camp and ferry deal of £130 for 5 nights, with a choice of 4 sites our’s being Whitefield Forest camping site  2.5 miles outside Ryde. http://www.whitefieldforest.co.uk/ So its an early start for us then, the crossing being on a Sunday 1 o’clock pm. We need to arrive 30 mins before the ferry leaves so as to board. I estimated a 3 hour journey with a break at Membury Services, Lesley made some sausage rolls for breakfast last night, which she heated under the grill whilst we stopped.
The crossing took an hour, but was very enjoyable, by the time we entered the Solent, we  where almost there, an announcement asked us to return to our vehicles and soon we where driving in our van on The Isle of Wight heading for Ryde and on to the site.

The pitch is very big, with water and electric nearby superb. The site also has a surprise awaiting anyone who wanders along the nature trail in the woods. A hide created for  the sole purpose of watching Red Squirrels. Much to our delight we sat on the bench  provided and enjoyed a young Red Squirrel scamper about not more than 4 feet away.
